Aerospace Maritime and Defence Foundation of Australia Limited is a not-for-profit corporation limited by guarantee and established to promote the development of aviation and Australian industrial, manufacturing and information/communications technology resources in the fields of aviation, aerospace, maritime and defence.

To focus on each of these sectors, the Foundation has established three specialist not-for-profit operational subsidiaries - Aerospace Australia Limited, Maritime Australia Limited and Aviation Development Australia Limited.

The mission is to promote the development of Australian industrial, manufacturing and information/communications technology resources through expositions, conferences and events.

These activities provide forums for the exchange of ideas and information, foster education and research, facilitate national and international contacts and networks, stimulate Australian enterprise and innovation, expand markets and business opportunities for Australian industry and showcase Australian achievements and capabilities.

As the parent company in the not-for-profit group, the Foundation provides support to its specialist subsidiaries in the pursuit of their respective activities and, since its establishment in 1989, has forged strong links with a range of stakeholders - including Government. the Australian Defence Force and the nation's aviation, aerospace, maritime and defence industries.

The Foundation is characterised by a strong tradition of volunteer contribution. Established following the success of the 1988 Australian Bicentennial Air Show at Richmond and building on the legacy of the preceding series of Schofields Air Shows in north western Sydney, it enjoys a committed and altruistic membership drawn from Australians with distinguished backgrounds in aviation, aerospace, maritime and defence.

The Board of the Foundation currently comprises Ian Smith (Chairman). Air Marshal Les Fisher AO, RAAF (Rtd); Rear Admiral David Holthouse AO, RAN (Rtd) and Ian Honnery (Chief Executive).

The Foundation's vision is for Australia to be strongly positioned at the forefront of aviation, maritime, aerospace and defence in the Asia Pacific region.
